The Dripcatcher™ was born like many of the world's best inventions: out of a simple need.

John Lucey, inventor and owner of the Dripcatcher™, has worked in the paint contracting business for nearly two decades. During this time, he has strived to reach the top of his industry, and as any paint contractor will tell you, there is nothing more instrumental in reaching this goal than neatness on a job site. Having experienced the horrors of dripped paint landing on his clients' expensive oriental rugs, roofs, brick patios, and other surfaces, John was convinced there had to be a way of avoiding these costly situations, while improving the quality of his company's work.

Looking at a paint bucket every day for nearly twenty years, John thought that paint would drip no matter what. So why fight it? Why not channel the natural action created by gravity, and point the paint back into the bucket for re-use?

Several prototypes made of tin, plastic, and epoxy eventually yielded a design that was awarded a US patent (overseas patent pending) and brought to life the signature design of the Dripcatcher™. This signature design is best defined as a gutter system, and most importantly, it works!

John initially tested the Dripcatcher™ with his own paint crew. Soon the idea was put in front of various inventors, and a focus group was held. Several paint contractors in the Boston area tested the prototypes. The Dripcatcher™ prototypes worked so well, the paint contractors were hesitant to give them back!

This revolutionary invention caught the eye of columnist Peter Howe of the Boston Globe, and the Dripcatcher™ was highlighted in the article "Innovations born of frustration." Before the Dripcatcher™, the paint bucket was a simple commodity that had not been improved upon in decades.
